The layoffs were spread over several Vox properties, including its SB Nation network of sports sites. Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff informed employees in a memo, saying the elimination of around 130 jobs was due to “the challenging economic environment impacting our business and industry.” Vox Media announced on Friday that it would be cutting 7 percent of its staff, in the process all but ending SB Nation’s longstanding and hugely vital American soccer coverage.
